Riffing off popular phenomena, such as Harry Potter and the X-Men, this title sets teen angst-y situations in a world populated with cat-eared prom queens, the Everlasting Boy, and superpowered jocks. Most of the strips are a page-long, with the exception of the never-before-seen 40-page story arc that concludes the series. While at times these snippets may confuse readers because of their brevity and often weighty existential themes, these snapshots often center on the same cast of characters, each of whom teens get to know more deeply by the book's end. The mostly black-and-white art is divided in a range of single, full-page to six panels, and rare bursts of color are deftly used to moving effect. Marsha, the misanthropic witch with a crush on her female best friend; Frances, the boundary-pushing artist; and Cheddar, the athlete trying to find the meaning of life, among others, stand out as the more fully developed protagonists, but readers will find bits of themselves in many of the realistic characters. Poking fun at the "Chosen One" mythos, Tamaki has created a stellar graphic novel that combines her slice-of-life expertise and clean, uncluttered art style. About the Author

Jillian Tamaki is a Canadian illustrator and cartoonist living in Brooklyn, New York. Her illustrations have won gold medals from the Society of Illustrators and the Society of Publication Designers. Tamaki is the co-creator of the graphic novel Skim, which was listed as a New York Times Best Illustrated Book of 2008 and was nominated for four Eisner Awards and a Governor General's Literary Award. This One Summer, her second co-authored work with Mariko Tamaki, was published in mid-2014 and spent more than a month on the New York Times bestseller list. Her two books of personal work are Gilded Lilies and Indoor Voice.

Excellent and fun "graphic novel" collection of the awesome web/tumblr comic strip. A wonderful glimpse into a magical yet wholly familiar world.
Loosely, yet expertly crafted lines, and fluid storytelling. Perfect one page at a time, or in longer sittings, often hilarious, with healthy doses of poignancy and ennui.
If you enjoy Hark a Vagrant, or Harry Potter, or Adventure Time, or just excellent things in general, get this ASAP for your eyeballs.

Deadpan, angsty, and socially aware “Suptermutant Magic Academy” is a collection of hundreds of smaller stories about a group of otherworldly teens. It has all the nihilism of “Pearls Before Swine” and the whimsy of “Calvin and Hobbes,” but with swear words clearly written out and a wavering fog of gloom.

Readers hoping for spell after spell will be disappointed. “Academy” takes place in a magical high school. But the characters are just like any other set of young adults: pining, whining, resigning.

Most of the stories take up no more than a single page. They’re sketches of the lives of Marsha, Wendy, Cheddar, Frances, Everlasting Boy, and their classmates. Every couple of panels ends in a slick punchline, before switching over to an entirely different train of thought. Marsha & Co. struggle with the idea that they need to cherish the present day they will eventually be nostalgic for. But like any other set of adolescents, they won’t realize it until after the book ends.

The illustrations are clean-cut, the jokes at once sharp and tender. SMA feels like eating one slice of a very intriguing combination pizza and being unable to get seconds.

Finally was able to "get" stabilization

After 4 rounds on the hcg diet, I had lost nearly 100lbs and was a little worried about being able to stabilize that loss as Dr. Simeons's only guidance was to not eat sugar or starch. My previous P3 phases had resulted in numerous "correction days" in order to try and keep my weigh where it needed to be. This guide was heaven sent!!! I followed it's simple guidance and had my first (and most important) stabilization where I needed NO correction days to stabilize. I also LOVED the recipes that are included continue to use many of them now, even after staying at goal for 9 months (at this point.) A definite MUST have to help take the guess-work out of stabilizing all your hard work that you've put in to lose fat on the hcg diet!

This plan works!

I found this guide interesting. Basically, if you do this Dr. Simeons way, you are on your own. The only help is no sugar/starch. Here, you get recipes and advice as what to eat and what not to eat to stabilize. I bought another book about stabilizing in P3 and P4 and it includes 2 correction days weekly. Sonia and Candice mentions in their research as long as you follow this plan, no correction days are necessary. It is so true.I spent close to $50 on the other book. I felt this book was reasonable in cost and delivered the information quite clearly...Betty Henderson

Meticulous Philology

In December, 1982 I attended Joseph Yahuda's lecture at the Finchley Synagogue in North London on "Hebrew is Greek". Many in the audience were Christian scholars who challenged the author on the derivations of some of the words. Politely, Yahuda pointed out that some basic errors were made when the Septuagint was produced.In my bones, I felt Yahuda was on to something and, at vast expense, bought his tome and labour of love.

On 18th May, 1983 I invited myself, accompanied by my Greek-speaking wife, to Yahuda's grace-and-favour flat where he lived alone. Seated behind assorted dictionaries,he asked me to read out aloud in Hebrew from any of the 680 pages and soon stopped me in my tracks to say I had missed out a word. Since then, I have almost weekly referred to his magnum opus to further understand his research. Knowing his outstanding background as a biblical scholar and linguist along with his many years as a Barrister-at-Law, I soon became persuaded that his thesis was probably right and said so. "No", he countered, "You must understand. We are talking about pre-Homeric Greek."

Abba Eban, that renowned linguist, had been sent a copy and pronounced it "interesting" -- a diplomatic accolade.

Aged 90, Yahuda's curiosity for knowledge knew no bounds and he set about obtaining a PHd in Biology at King's College. A man of small stature, he was blessed with great wisdom and humility.

Neutral on book, disdainful of its critics

The reviewer who writes:
"his work depends almost entirely on "assonances," the similar sound of two unrelated words. Just to make an example, the Hebrew word kayin (spear) must be related to the New World word cayenne (pepper). Of course, attempting to make the semantic link between the supposedly related words leads to absurd associative thinking: "cayenne comes from kayin because you 'pepper' your enemies with spears in battle." Real linguistic links funtion like the Sanskrit word for "father," patri..."
Is guilty of the fallacy of analogy. He offers not proof but contradiction without evidence. Clearly, he didn't read it and embarrasses himself by offering an opinion. I haven't read it either and offer no opinion on the book other than to say that all the criticism is ignorant and guilty of what the critics accuse the author of: argument by analogy. I give it three stars for exposing the terrible logic of its reviewers.

Excellent book

Very interesting book, well detailed especially on how to face a flight attendant interview, easily readable. I tried different books on this topic and having some experience on flight attendant interview I think It gives the best explanation of most cabin crew assessment days. I think also this can be very useful for people that want to have a career in an airline because it does also explain how to escalate positions inside the company and how to face different interview in some other roles in the airlines
