Just my kind of book

This was a witty and enjoyable read close enough to the type I am predisosed to-gumshoe type detective stories-that I recommend it even though the protagonist isn't a detective. Pull the detective and insert an ex-military freelance 'problem solver' and you'll find something very familiar.
The dialogue and the prose were well written, and I found the plot kept my interest, even during transitions and setups. There is some gritty content, but I felt it was relevant and properly done. Some of the 'colorful' associates the protagonist had are a little stretched, but by no means to the point that they were out of place. There were a couple of editing errors that a good look should have revealed, but only a couple. Overall, the finished product was very readable.
The author did a good job of putting the story together and I am glad I took a look at his work. I will be looking at his other pieces as well.

Grown up characters for grown up readers

If you're looking for a cozy, this isn't it. Youthful, gorgeous, hip characters with witty repartee? This isn't it. This is a gritty story with grown up horrors and a man who takes it into his own hands to fix it all. He is not a cop, he doesn't use high tech means... but he's probably the kind of man most men hope to be when something happens to a loved one. I love characters who are somewhat world weary. They've seen too much and done too much, while at the same time can never do enough to stem the tide of ugliness they know exists. You know how you read the stories in the news about the many atrocities we commit upon each other and you feel so helpless? Well what if you could just b**** slap the piece of crap who does these things? If you had the opportunity for revenge would you take it? Could you take it? Kellerman wrestles with lots of questions about good and evil and who deserves what. That's what makes his character fascinating. If he just went on random rampages because he were asked to, it would be a different book. Both Lollypops and Checkmate were excellent reads and the depth of Kellerman made them that way. Mr. Lamandas trademark endings never fail me. All in all a 5 star choice.

A good read

Lollipops, like the first Kellerman novel Checkmate, is a fun read. The action is fast-paced and the characters generally believable. The book feels somewhat derivative, as though Lamanda red a bunch of Spencer, Elvis Cole, and Lawrence Block's Hit man novels before starting his own. Highly entertaining.
