Good for Intermediate + Players (includes table of contents)

This is an interesting set of arranged suites for guitar. As an intermediate guitarist I found them a bit difficult at times and other pieces quite fun. If you like tab look elsewhere as well. This book has expectations of a bit of experience of the reader / performer. I've included the table of contents since Amazon doesn't have a click me to open the book preview.

Nice Arrangements

This is an excellent edition of well known Bach suites arranged for guitar and represents a good value. The arrangements employ more cross-string fingerings than other arrangements. This approach may sometimes necessitate a bit more left hand stretching than other arrangements, but I did not find anything too difficult. No need to guess on any left hand fingerings, it appears every note is fully fingered (except some repeats of earlier passages). Ms Afshar has done a fine job of arranging these pieces to seem very natural to the instrument. I have really enjoyed and highly recommend this collection.

Great Book

I heard Bret Williams "Classical Guitar Insider" Podcast interview with Lily a while back and decided to try her arrangements based on some interesting things she said in the interview. I'm a professional rock, metal, fusion, steel-string acoustic and intermediate classical guitarist. My background is such that 4-5+ fret stretches are often more comfortable than traditional classical guitar arrangement fingerings. For example in the excellent Jerry Willard Complete Lute Suites I would often re-finger things this way because its just easier for me personally. This is the exact opposite of say a Segovia style fingering. Lily does exactly what she promises by making the arrangements more guitar-like, open and logical for modern players who aren't afraid to get out of the 4 fret box.
I sight read through Cello suite #1 first. It was the first arrangement I've seen remove the slurs.. but it sounds great and falls nicely under both hands. The Ave Maria arrangement is great (in C). I was most impressed by something I've always had a hard time reading through.. prelude from Lute Suite #1. With Lily's fingerings I was able to get through the intro to the fugue section unscathed. Her fingerings here really shine and just made sense to me.. as opposed to other arrangements where the fingerings almost hindered my performance.
Also of note is the great value here. 2 Complete Cello Suites (#1, #3), Prelude, Fugue and Allegro, All 4 Lute Suites and Ave Maria for under $20! Thanks Lily!

impressive useful techniques

The vCloud Director is an impressive extension of VMware's existing product line. It lets you, a data center administrator, expand the number of networks you can start up and thence manage.

The book also shows a natural dynamic tension between VMware and Cisco. The latter is of course also continously improving its hardware and software offerings. One important case is the Cisco 1000v, which is software. It competes with the VMware Distributed Switch. Langenhan describes the 1000v as being a replacement. I am uncertain if this is VMware's official policy, but the reader should take into account that the author is independent of both companies. So his opinion on this and indeed on other topics in this book is valuable.

One recipe that may resonate widely with readers is on creating load balanced virtual machines. Remember that one point about having VMs in the first place for most companies is to improve the use of your existing hardware. All those idle but powered up servers. But having deployed VMs across your machines, presumably using VMware, the next logical step is to load balance them. This helps increase further the overall use. The recipe on this appears straightforward to implement. Though please note that I do not have the hardware and software to do so, and am just going by the text's narrative.

Another important area of discussion is the enhancement of datastores. This is an acknowledgment that a virtual machine is ultimately run on and stored on hardware. A chapter delves into ways that VMware improved the backing up of your VMs. This includes recommendations or perhaps reminders that backups should be stored on disks that are as cheap as possible; not the latest and fastest ones.

A 20th century classic

Mabel Todd's The Thinking Body is a must read for every serious Yoga student. It's the source book for what's called ideokinesis, a wonderful system of body-mind education based on the use of creative imagery. Much of what I learned in Yoga classes in my early years as a student I found echoed in Todd's book, which was written in the 1930s. It's not always easy to find a copy, and if you can get one for under $20, snap it up.

Required for anyone with a Body

This is a great book for those seeking to better understand their body mechanics! I have taken years of yoga classes and love the power of visualizing poses. With this book, I have learned so much about how my body works and how linked it is to our mental capacity or awareness. Truly, it is a holistic view of anatomy and physiology that includes emotions, intuition, psychology, culture, and spirituality.

Mabel Elsworth Todd's ideas and practices served as the foundation for the field known as Ideokinesis - essentially, body-mind integration. Two of her better-known students, Dr. Lulu Sweigard and Barbara Clark refined it to a scientifically tenable system accessible for broader audiences, including children. These two women both published manuals and books in their lifetimes, but it seems that only Sweigard's Human Movement Potential: Its Ideokinetic Facilitation is still in print.
